Hello,

Well here I am again...now today I have to turn in my first assignment for my Mgmt class and take the test.  My first test for college in many years.  I am kinda nervous.  Hoping i get can geet thru this and get a good grade and that my homeowrk is done correctly. I think I went way overboard.  But we we shall see.

the last time I went to school was in California at Orange Coast College.
Orange Coast College
that was a fun time..I was young..just moved out and had a boyfriend.  Then it became my down fall.  I moved to far away, had drama with my boyfriend and discovered the pizza place around the corner that me and my english class would hang out before class...Beer ..not a friend of college students.  LOL... So I ended up dropping out...never told my dad..he was not happy...and went on about my life...managed a restauarant for 10 years.  And in that time I discoverd Computer school...went to a 10 month program and received a certificate for Information Technology/Network Systems Administartion.  That was my foot in the door. I have been an admin assistant for many years and usually ended up on special projects. I move to texas and got this job at IBM  as a project coordinator and now in order to get to be and IBMr  I need a degree...so that is my path to college at 45 years old.

I am excited tho...will challenge my mind and keep me even more busy.  I like school and I am good at school...

I hope once I do get my degree that I do get hired.  I do have a lot of flexiblity at my job tho and that makes up for what I dont get paid. I am greatful for that because i get to spend time raising my  daughter and being involved in her life more.

Altho this blog was an assignment I am thinking about keeping it up. I have always been intereseted in blogs an know that poeple make money from it.  So I am thinking What the Hell...Might try it.

Well time for meeting then more homeowrk and taking my test.

Have a wonderful day.

Wow...Might be more then I thought

Well here I am ...3rd day of college and starting the 2nd week.  I am totally confused on my one class on what the Teacher watns.  Its reading chapters and answering questions.  I know what I did in high school not sure if it works for College too.  I am just going thru the chapters and pulling the information from the text and typing it up.  I am hoping that is what I should be doing.  I guess I will find out when the time comes to turn in the work and take the test.

I am trying to get this whole scheduling down. I think its harder then normal because I am in summer school and its only 6 weeks. So its accelerated.  I should get the hang of it.

Of course at the last minute today my job decided to take precedent and have an issue that was super time sensitive...so now my homework time is short.

I am Loving my Business Apps class ...its more then just the Office apps that I thought.  Which if it was, then Easy A...but No its not.  Its more..its Blogs, the Cloud, discussion Forums.  All the stuff I already use but have not really learned about. And of cours Office... We touch on Access which I need a refresher on.  I already got my for 100%...something simple like turning in the data sheet.  but hey...its a start.

OK...I will update more later...time to work thru this Business Mgmt Class.

My First Day of College in Over 20 Years

I want to share my experience with going back to school in hopes that someone will get motivation or comfort in know they are not the only ones going back to school as an older adult.

Well on Thursday July 14 I started College to finish my 2 year degree.  The last time I was in College it was in 1991.  Wow have things changed.  No longer do you need to spend all day on Campus walking from class to class.  Spending your spare time in the Cafe doing homework.  No more taking long drives to the campus.  I am now sitting in the comfort of my home in my pajamas in front of my laptop and working on my assignments at my leisure, or well with in reason. There are still assignment deadlines but for the most part you have a week to meet the deadline.

Let me tell you a bit about myself.

I just turned 45 in June.  I have a wonderful 6 yo daughter and a am Married.  I have lived in Texas for 9.5 years.  I was born in Orange County California and lived there until I moved to Texas. I Lost both my parents when I was 29 and as a result of that had some personal issues that caused me to not make the best decisions.  Since moving out to Texas, I have done nothing but move forward and upward.  About 3 years ago I had Weight Loss Surgery and lost over 100 lbs and been able to maintain that weight loss. I admin a group on Facebook for the South East Area of Houston where I had lived for most of my 8 years here in Texas.  I am very active in my Daughters life and school activities. I am fortunate to have a job that allows me to work from home and spend time with my family.

While in California. I managed and Italian restaurant for 10 years and for 8 years I worked various special projects admin for Southern California Edison Electric. Upon moving out to Texas I was eventually hired by a contract agency that provides contractors to IBM corporation. I have been working with them for the last 9 years as a Project Coordinator.  I support a Project Manager that oversees a 3 level help desk.  Within the last two years I have also been working Retail clothing at the local mall. I love getting out from behind the computer and talking to people. I finally decided that when my daughter would start school so would I.  And here I am a year late but I have finally started school again and my Daughter will be going into 1st Grade.

I want to finally get my 2 year degree for a variety of reasons.  So I can my father proud as he looks down upon me.  So that I can move upward in my current career.  And so my value as an employee wiill increase along with my compensation.  I love my job but want to eventually become a project manager.

I am attending Lone Star College, that has campuses all over the north side of Houston Metro area. You can find out more about them at the following link:

Lone Star Cy Fair College

I Will post more later as I continue this new journey of learning.
